30 JUN 2011 THUR - BALI - 6. Bebek Bengil (Dirty Duck)

bebek bengil restaurant (bebek = duck & bengil = dirty)
why dirty duck?
because the ducks are usually reared in the muddy paddy field... when the building of the restaurant was almost completed in 1990, the owner thought long and hard for a name... one tropical monsoon morning, a flock of ducks from the rice field across the road ran quacking and squawking into the restaurant and left muddy webbed footprints all over the place... they were the first guests.... the dirty ducks!

the restaurant is about 10 minutes walk (along the traffic direction) from kunang-kunang guesthouse.

our driver yoman called this morning to make reservation for the signature dish smoked duck for us...

but the restaurant only took our reservation but not for the smoked duck which requires deposit of rp50k...

so we ordered a nasi campur bebek bengil rp69k (nasi campur is the mixed vege rice set and bebek bengil is the crispy duck which is also their signature dish):

and the bebek bengil nasi rp72k (the crispy duck rice set), the orange-color sauce got the balajem fragrant and the mixed onions & chilli is yummy, both so 下饭 lor):
the crispy duck is a bit oily to our liking, after eating with our fingers, our fingers were so smelly :(

hot lemongrass ginger honey tea rp26k each... i heart this, it's a bit sour for st, so she requested for another shot of honey at no additional cost:... that is not the straw but the lemon grass :)
total bill rp223k (about S$33)  [after 5% service charge & 10% tax]

we finished our dinner at around 10pm... strolled back to our guesthouse which is about 10 minutes away...

this crispy duck is deep fried... a bit oily, so so if eaten without the sauce... the 2 plates of sauce are yummy :)
