10 FEB 2007 INDIA, from DELHI to JAIPUR

0813HR Breakfast - Half Set Tea, Cheese Toast & Masala Omelette. Per the Menu, the total should be about INR97 (about S$3.50). However we were billed INR109 (S$3.90). We are vigilant after last night room service meal incident ;) showed the room service staff the Menu, he checked, apologised and returned the diff.

1221HR Lunch - Vegetarian Thali Set INR165 ; Vegetarian Fried Noodles INR75 & 2 Cups of Tea INR40 (excluding 12.5% tax). Total about S$11.
Thali Set is a typical South Indian and Gujarati all-in-one meal serves on stainless steel or silver plate (a platter of vegetarian or non-vegetarian dishes, pickles, rice and bread).
The serving is too big for one but just enough to be shared by ST & me. So we usually ordered 2 serving of hot soup to go with a Thali Set.
From our experience in Nepal last April where the NEPALI BHOJ (the typical Nepalese full meal course with soup, rice, spinach, curry, lentils, pickle, salads & sweet dish) tasted differently at different restaurants. This time in India, we ordered the Thali Set whenever the restaurants have it in their menu.
1600HR at Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan.
Jaipur has remained virtually unchanged from its original plan. It is as vibrant and commercially alive now as it was in the time of Jai Singh II.
1700HR checked in Hotel Vijay Niwas1804HR wandering in the pink city...
The characteristic pink colour of the buildings was applied to the central district in 1856 as a gesture of welcome on the occasion of the visit of British Prince Albert and it has remained so ever since. Municipal regulations rquire each homeowner to repaint their facade regularly in order to maintain the appealing pink look of the city.
1947HR Room Service Dinner - Chef Special Thali Set (Paneer Veg, Seasonal Veg, Dal, Raita, Rice, Papad, Salad, Butter Milk, 2 Misi Roti, 2 Butter Chapati & Sweet) and Sweet Corn Vege Soup, total INR160 (S$5.70). The young room service staff was so friendly, kept coming back to see if we had enough food, 'insisted' us to take extra Naan (Leavened Bread made with Yoghurt) though we repeatedly told him we were full. When I greeted him 'Hari Om', he was so happy and pointed at his name tag, his name is Om!
By the way, though we ordered Thali Set for lunch and dinner, they tasted differently, the dinner was yummy and cheap.
