Not able to throw out the water on Day 8 and 9, discontinued then.

WARNING -

rather GROSS pics:

Not sure why unsuccessful???
Anyway will have the chance to try again under close supervision in JAN2007 when I attend the 1-Month Yoga Teaching Course in India.
Well for the benefits of those interested, I extracted these reference notes from [Basic Hatha Yoga Course - Nikam Guruji Yoga Kutir] (http://www.yoganikam.com/) :
(Jala=Water, Dhauti=Washing)

Introduction - Accumulated toxins in the stomach pose a great risk to health. Ailments arising from such toxins or acids include ulcers, skin disordrs, joint pains, migrains, insomnia, constipation, digestive disorders, etc. Periodic practice of Jala-Dhauti ensures that the accumulated toxins are flushed out of the body, which in turn imparts lightness to the body, joyfulness of mind, improved alertness and excellent digestion.

Benefits & Positive Effects - Cleanses the stomach of toxins. Cures cough and bile related ailments. Removes excessive gas in the stomach and reduces lethargy.

Caution! Not Recommended for Conditions of - Heart disorders, high blood pressure, pregnancy, extreme physical weakness and recent surgery of any organs in the abdomen, chest or head.

Recommended for Conditions of - Hyperacidity, insomnia, joint pains, skin disorders, migraine.

Recommended Sequence in the Practice - Ideally practiced early in the morning. Alternatively, it can be practiced at any time of the day when the stomach is empty and there is not fatigue. It is advisable to thoroughly rinse the mouth with warm water after this technique to ensure that the gums and teeth are free of acids.

Procedure - Initial position : Squatting or sitting comfortably on a chair.
Step 1 - Take a jar of lukewarm water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
Step 2 - Start to drink the water one glass after another. One can drink the water at a comfortable speed but do not spend too much time in between the gulps. Attempt to drink as many glasses of water as you can. Up to 6 glasses of water is recommended.
Step 3 - Now go to the toilet/bathroom and stand with your feet apart. Bend forward at your waist until your torso is parallel to the floor. Use your 3 fingers to lightly touch the inner end of your tongue. This will give rise to a vomitting sensation and you will throw out some water that you had just consumed. Breathe naturally for a while and touch the tongue with your fingers again.
Step 4 - Repeat Step 3 until you have thrown out all the water that was consumed.

Perform the Jala-Dhauti continuously for 15 days. Then, stop the practice for the next 15 days. Thereafter, the Jala-Dhauti should be practiced 3 continuous days after every 15 days.

Attention points -
a) For some individuals throwing of the water may not be possible in the initial few days of practice. In this case, try the Jala-Dhauti for a day, if you are not successful, relax for next 2 days, then try again. Continue trying in this manner and slowly you will be able to throw the water out. The consumed water, even if not thrown out, will not cause any harm.
b) For the first try, it is best to try Jala-Dhauti on a non-working day.
c) Do not rub your fingers vigorously over the tongue in an attempt to throw out the water.
d) Try to keep the spine straight while drinking the water.
