03 SEP 2011 SAT - 1st Formal Training @MacRitchie for OCT Nepal Trekking Trip

before this i've 'informal' training in the sense that i have been trying my best to walk as much as i can... for example, instead of taking bus, i walked to & fro bp plaza (about 2 bus-stops), walked to cck (about 6 bus-stops), ...

0813 at MacRitchie bus-stop:

0825 beginning of the trail:

0946 at hsbc tree top walk:

1005:

1147 completed 'the blue trail, distance 10.3km, approx walking time 4-5 hours, trail grade moderate to difficult' [MacRitchie Trails Map]... wow wow we spent about 3.5 hours (from 0825 to 1147)... yes! we are not as weak as we think we are, indeed a great achievement... up up our morale... lol:
i brought 500ml of plain water & 300ml of honey water for the trek... 'just sufficient with a bit of rationing towards the end of the trek' :) ... so 800-1000ml will be just nice :)

we walked H A B C D E C B A H :

1214 so lucky it started to rain when we were about to reach 'mushroom' eatery... my kopi:

mee siam:

1232 still no energy after eating the above... haha milo extreme:
... and so lucky the rain stopped when we finished our makan :)

hahaha... my back & leg-aching while walking to the bus stop... did some yoga waist twisting while waiting for the bus, reached home did some leg lifting and back rolling asanas, plus self-massaging (the nerve-massage course that i attended in chiang mai comes in good use here)... i can then walked properly to take my shower lol... guess gonna do the same throughout the trekking trip :) and i think my body gonna ache for the next few days :( ......
[04SEP11 PS: heehee just very mild aching around my inner lower thigh only, my calves no pain... i m pleasantly surprise... guess the yoga and self-massage worked! guess i did not have enough massage for my thigh :)]

from wiseGEEK : 'Hiking boots are a mountaineer's most important piece of equipment. A hiker's feet must be well protected and kept comfortable and dry. Since the terrain can range from flat and dry to rough and wet, it's important to choose hiking boots wisely. The last thing any backpacker wants is foot problems.'
btw i now understand why trekking boots is a must for trekking trip... i was rather reluctant to buy a pair of trekking boots initially... just for this trip! sounds so wasteful lor hahaha... but the well-being of my feet will determine how far i can go...... read from the web about the ankle protection, toes protection,... ya i used to have blue-black toes after long walk (if i wear cover-toe shoes)... but today no such pain at all! the shoe-lace tightened at the ankle level prevented the toes from hitting the front :)

from the web, we gathered the function/ feature that we need... water proof, mid cut and light-to-mid weight (as light as possible but with protection la), also must get a size bigger as our feet likely to swell a bit after few days of trekking... so we went queensway to shop for footware on monday... some angmoh brands leather ones very expensive lor... the shop owner highly recommended this korean brand leather one... S$160... we tried and found it very comfortable... value for money! :) we also gained quite a bit of knowledge about footware from the shop owner and his assistant :) i searched the web for this korean brand when i got home, can't find any info leh and there is this tag in the shoes box that indicated made in china... anyway it doesn't really matter as long as it meets our needs :)

the inside, water proof base & surrounding:

after today trek... heehee i so hardworking, brushed and washed the soles... see the 'busy' sole pattern with multiple function [all-in-one] as claimed by the shop-owner, he said just like car tyre, different pattern for winter, normal, muddy,... :

this is closest to the actual color:

we also got these trekking socks from the same shop, S$20 each... rather expensive... i bought 2 pairs and st got 6 pairs (she is very gam on her footware one, as for me the 'mao' one, as usual the 'kiam' and 'ghiam' one)... anyway i wore the light grey pair today... very comfortable... the sock is very thick so as to reduce friction and prevent blisters from developing during long walk... with the thickness of the sock plus our hot humid weather... i did not have heaty and sweaty feet today! because of the coolmax and quick dry function/ feature :)
btw i saw from g-market, korean brand trekking socks with same function/ feature, 3 pairs S$10 plus postage S$3... i ordered online and am waiting for the delivery... will share more about it then :)
